Don’t Let Go Of Missed Opportunities

When one door of opportunity closes, another one will open.

We all want our lives to be perfect. Unfortunately, the world doesn’t work that way. When you think of a day that you consider to be a perfect day, what are the reasons why it’s perfect?

What is the formula for having a perfect day? Is it when everything goes your way and you get everything you want?

Is it when the Universe works in your favor? Is your perfect day doable? As in, could you go out and have that perfect day again?

I’m sure we all share at least one goal, which is to be happy in life. I would love to experience a life filled with perfect days, but I know that’s not always going to happen.

Life doesn’t always work in our favor, sometimes it works against us. Even when we think we’re doing everything right; we still get doors slammed in our face.

How we react to the closed doors, and missed opportunities are what going to make or break us. And, if we’re being honest, there is not an exact formula for having a perfect day.

A door of opportunities.

Some people might react to a closed-door of opportunities as it wasn’t meant to be.

Without even trying to make it work, they think once a door closes then they’re closed for good. But, that’s not true.

Just because you missed an opportunity, doesn’t mean that opportunity won’t open again and be available to you.

You might have not been ready to take on that opportunity, so the door closed, and it’ll stay closed until you are fully prepared and ready to take on that opportunity.

But, if you don’t prepare yourself and make yourself ready to accept it, then the door will stay closed forever.

We hope to have a life filled with perfect days, not realizing that it takes a lot of effort to achieve a good day let alone a perfect one.

And once you do achieve that perfect day you’ve been longing for, it’s not going to be 100 percent perfect, because we as human beings are not 100 percent perfect.

The perfect day that we hope for will never go exactly as we imagined, life doesn’t work that way.

So, what can we do?

For starters, we can stop being so quick to let go of missed opportunities.

We have no idea if we’ll be able to have that opportunity again, but we’ll never find out if we don’t hold onto our dream or our goal of having that opportunity.

For example, I always wanted to celebrate my 21st birthday in Vegas, it was a childhood dream that I was determined to make happen.

Well, my 21st birthday comes around, and due to lack of planning and saving on my part, I couldn’t celebrate my birthday in Vegas.

Was I disappointed and bummed out I couldn’t celebrate my birthday in Vegas?

You bet I was, but instead of rolling over and giving into my disappointment, I made it my goal to celebrate my birthday at least one time in Vegas.

Dirty Thirty.

I decided to celebrate my 30th birthday in Sin City, and I chose that birthday because that was the age, I was the most excited to turn.

Everyone moans about turning 30 since they feel like that’s when they suddenly become old, but I didn’t see my 30th birthday that way.

I hated my birthday from turning 22 and up, and I was excited to finally leave my 20’s behind and start this new chapter in life.

Because of that, I thought celebrating my 30th birthday in Vegas was a perfect idea, so I made sure to plan and save ahead of time to make this thing happen.

Did I accomplish my goal of having the opportunity to celebrate my birthday in Las Vegas? YES. I. DID.

Was its 100 percent perfect the way I imagined? No, it wasn’t but that didn’t make it so my time in Vegas was bad.

I was still able to enjoy celebrating my birthday, even though it didn’t go the way I wanted it to go.

I didn’t focus on the reasons why it wasn’t exactly how I imagined, because those reasons were small compared to the main goal of having the opportunity to celebrate my birthday in Vegas.

What would have happened if I gave up on trying to celebrate my birthday in Vegas?

If I decided to give up trying to accomplish my childhood goal because I couldn’t celebrate my 21st birthday.

I would have never had the opportunity to celebrate my dirty Thirty in Vegas and have the best birthday I’ve ever had in eight years.

I didn’t roll over and give in to my disappointment of not being able to turn 21 in Vegas, I told myself that I will celebrate my birthday in Vegas no matter what.

And guess what, I did. It may have taken nine years to happen, but it was worth it.

Things don’t always go as planned or as we have hoped, but the fact that it did happen is what we need to focus on.

Don’t put off being happy, have that perfect beautiful day.

This brings me back to the question I asked earlier.

If you could imagine what your perfect day would be, try to go out and live that perfect day.

Will it go 100 percent the way you imagined and be 100 percent perfect? Nope.

Don’t let that stop you from trying to live that perfect day.

At my last therapy appointment, my therapist wanted me to imagine my most beautiful day — I used morning — and try to live that beautiful morning.

I imagined my beautiful morning would be waking up in my Las Vegas condo, with my two main coon cats.

And, I would go out to my back patio with my laptop and mug of Red Bull and write while watching the sunrise.

Of course, that couldn’t happen since I live in Utah and I’m not going to wake up the next morning and be in Vegas.

So, instead of telling myself that I can’t have that beautiful morning since I’m not in Vegas.

I decided to have my beautiful morning Utah style, and it was amazing.

Don’t give in to disappointment.

I didn’t let the fact that I didn’t have the opportunity to experience my morning in Vegas upset me.

And, I didn’t accept that the door closed on living in Vegas was closed forever.

I may not have the opportunity to live in Vegas right now, but that doesn’t mean I won’t ever have the opportunity.

My door of opportunities is not closed, and neither are yours.
